Iran Remembers 9/11 by Silencing Moderate Daily
Yesterday Americans observed four moments of silence for those killed by the enemies of freedom. Meanwhile, the Iranian judiciary, notorious for hating freedom of speech, silenced a popular voice of moderation, the Sharq newspaper.
Americans have always complained about the perceived lack of struggle by moderate Muslims against “Islamic fascism”, arguing the war on terror should be fought on the intellectual front as well.
Fair enough, but this is the problem: your bungled military adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq have helped totalitarian rulers in Iran and other Islamic nations to portray the war on terror as a 21st-century crusade.
Any liberal Muslim has consequently been branded as a collaborator. We the so-called traitors share such values as freedom and democracy with like-minded Americans, but as they are losing their credibility to preach these lofty ideals, we are losing our voice.
This blog tries to keep the voice alive.
